The REACH legislation came into force on June 1st 2008
The main objectives of this new legislation are:

- Full responsibility for risk management of chemical substances and articles is now allocated to the chemical industry.
- Every partner in the supply chain has become liable to deliver an optimum information contribution to the members of the supply chain.

Important dates:

- June 1st 2008 start of pre-registration till December 1st 2008
- January 2009 forming SIEF (Substance Information Exchange Forums)
- Until December 1st 2010: registration CMR substances and >1000 MT substances.
- Until June 1st 2013: registration of >100 MT substances.
- Until June 1st 2018: registration of >1 MT substances.
- June 1st 2018, SIEF responsibilities terminate.

REACH will alter our portfolio in the next 10 years. Some products will disappear while other products will be added, replacing those removed with enhanced products as required by Article 1 of REACH:

“The purpose of this Regulation is to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment, including the promotion of alternative methods for assessment of hazards of substances, as well as the free circulation of substances on the internal market while enhancing competitiveness and innovation”.
